Have you ever wondered why, in Italy and around the world, there is a significant presence of sicilian roots among the pioneers of infosec, digital art, and network culture?

As is always the case with human evolution, itā€™s a matter of adaptation. Being island(ers)ā€”or isolatedā€”brings with it a deeper need to be connected, to reconcile with the collective consciousness, and to quench oneā€™s thirst for knowledge.

After all, whereĀ thereĀ isĀ ruin,Ā thereĀ isĀ hopeĀ for aĀ treasure.

Twenty years ago today, the sicilian hacker community, one of the most ancient in the italian and european underground telematics scene, came together to celebrate its values: sharing, experimentation, avant-garde, and above all, an immense amount of humility.

The most authentic truth of hacking belongs to those who are aware that what they donā€™t know is infinitely greater than what they do, and for this reason, they never stop searching.

When the people you grow up with become an inseparable part of who you are:

even if you often reply to their messages months later,

even if itā€™s impossible to tell them most of the things you do,

even if you rarely show up to meetings,

the pride remains of having shared with them the most genuine years of your life. šŸ“ā€ā˜ ļø
